She doesn\u2019t just answer customer questions, through her knowledge of the production process she translates technically complex information to simple, clear communication. \u201cThe ultimate goal for all of us is to serve the customer to the best of our ability.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Shapeways Team Spotlight: Jean\u00e9 Bresler, Customer Service Representative\" width=\"1140\" height=\"641\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/B9W08N130QQ?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:40px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Jean\u00e9 is a Customer Service Representative at Shapeways\u2019 Eindhoven facility, but her path to the role \u2014 and the insight she brings to it \u2014 is far from typical. \u201cAbout two years ago we moved to Eindhoven. I have a background in 3D design, so I just found that Shapeways might be a great fit for me. At that time, a role opened up in the distribution center, which I applied for.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She got the job, but that was just the start. \u201cDuring my time in distribution, I started to learn the systems and processes and got the opportunity to work a bit more in post-production. Then I moved over to pre-production, doing some planning. And then about three months ago, the job opportunity opened up in customer service. I thought it might be a good fit \u2014 I applied and got the job.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Using experience that touches every part of the production process has allowed Jean\u00e9 to shape how she supports customers. \u201cIt definitely helps\u2026 when a client reaches out, I understand the processes. I can give them a reason why something is happening. I feel it\u2019s very important that when communicating to clients, not just to give them an answer but to give them understanding.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-a-bridge-between-the-customer-and-the-factory\"><strong>A bridge between the customer and the factory<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>To many of us, \u2018customer services\u2019 is synonymous with people complaining, but that\u2019s not true, explained Jean\u00e9. \u201cMost of my time is spent behind the computer answering clients\u2019 requests. But a lot of it is also spent running around the factory, reaching out to team members regarding specific client inquiries or orders, which is kind of fun.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1120\" height=\"631\" src=\"https:\/\/www.shapeways.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/20250430_131830-1120x631.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-43534\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.shapeways.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/20250430_131830-1120x631.jpg 1120w, https:\/\/www.shapeways.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/20250430_131830-840x473.jpg 840w, https:\/\/www.shapeways.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/20250430_131830-420x236.jpg 420w, https:\/\/www.shapeways.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/20250430_131830-768x432.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.shapeways.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/20250430_131830-1536x865.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/www.shapeways.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/20250430_131830-2048x1153.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1120px) 100vw, 1120px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:50px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Every morning at Shapeways starts with an all-hands production meeting where the whole team can give updates and highlight any issues of note, which Jean\u00e9 sees as critical to her role. \u201cYou know who to speak to, who\u2019s doing what. It gives a really good overview of the whole day.\u201d She also joins a brief management meeting to understand what\u2019s happening in other parts of the business. \u201cI\u2019m a very curious person. It\u2019s a good excuse to know what\u2019s happening everywhere with everyone.\u201d This curiosity and Jean\u00e9\u2019s technical insight allows her to have a greater impact in her role.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-communication-hub\"><strong>Communication hub<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Curiosity is just one part of the job. Communication and empathy are also key. \u201cPutting yourself in the client\u2019s shoes and problem solving is not always easy. Some people want their parts as soon as possible, but that\u2019s not always feasible\u2026 you want to find that sweet spot to keep your team happy but also the client.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And that communication goes both ways. \u201cSometimes I get an answer from my colleagues, but I don\u2019t fully understand what they\u2019re telling me. I\u2019m comfortable enough to ask for clarification. And they have the patience to explain it so that I can go back to the customer with clear, helpful communication.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Jean\u00e9\u2019s experience and understanding of the production floor gives her an advantage, being able to flesh out answers and provide better context. Sometimes, by advising that a client makes a small change she can show how the rest of the process would be positively impacted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That ability to translate technical complexity into clear, helpful guidance is what she sees as core to her role. \u201cA lot of clients have their file, they submit it, they want their part, and they just want you to help them quickly. They don\u2019t really care too much about all the intricacies involved in the process \u2014 that\u2019s for us to deal with.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cBut some do; you get a feel from a client\u2019s request about what level of information they want. It\u2019s about reading between the lines\u2026 what they\u2019re asking might not be exactly what they need to know or there may be additional information that would be useful for them.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-team-and-human-touch\"><strong>Team and human touch<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe thing I really like most is when you assist someone and they get it\u2026 if clients reach out to you regarding a specific project and say, \u2018Because of you, our project was such a success\u2019, that\u2019s absolutely awesome. When something like that happens during my day, I go home and say I had such a good day.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Working at Shapeways, Jean\u00e9 sees a company where everyone shares a mindset. \u201cI am in customer service, but the whole team really has such a service mindset\u2026 everyone has the customer\u2019s best interests at heart. Because we all work towards the same goal, it really helps me in my job.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And what keeps her excited to come to work every day?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cMainly, I would say it\u2019s the people. Every day there is something new\u00a0 to discuss.
